إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا

Surely, during the daylight, there are other things for you to keep you occupied.

وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا

And commemorate the name of your Lord, and get closer and closer to Him.

رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا

Lord of the East and the West, there is no god except He; you shall therefore take Him as an advocate.

وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا

And be patient in the face of their utterances and ignore them in a nice manner.

وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا

And leave the rejecters to Me, those who have been blessed generously, and give them a little time.

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا

Indeed, We have punishment and an Inferno.

وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

And choking food and a painful suffering.

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا

The day when the ground and the mountains will tremble and the mountains will be like a weightless pile.

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَـٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا

We have indeed sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا

However, Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We inflicted upon him a disastrous punishment.

فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا

Therefore, how can you protect yourselves if you lose faith on a day when children turn gray-haired.

ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًا

The vacuum ruptures because of Him, His promise will be fulfilled.

إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا

Indeed this is a reminder, therefore, let whoever wills take a path to his Lord.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌۢ

Your Lord knows that you indeed stay up nearly two-thirds of the night or half of it, or a third of it, and so do a group of those with you. However, God has designed the night and the day. He knows that you cannot do this all the time; He thus has accepted your repentance, therefore, read from the Quran whatever you can. He knows that some of you are ill, and others are traveling seeking God’s bounty and yet others are striving in the cause of God, so read from it as much as possible. And observe the contact prayer and give the cleansing charity and give God a loan of righteousness. And whatever good you send forth on behalf of your souls you will find it as a better reward with God. And ask God for forgiveness for indeed God is All Forgiving, All Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ

O you keeper of the secret.

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ

Rise up and warn.

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

And extol your Lord.

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

And cleanse your garment.

وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ

And forsake idolatry.

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ

And do not desire wealth.

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ

And stand by your Lord patiently.

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ

Then, when the trumpet sounds,-

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ

-that will be a difficult day,-

عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ

-it will not be easy for the unfaithful.

ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا

Let Me deal with the one whom I created as an individual.

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا

And I gave him abundant wealth,-

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا

-and sons to behold.

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا

And I made everything easy for him.

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ

Yet he is greedy for more.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا

He absolutely refused to acknowledge Our proofs.

سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا

I will increasingly punish him.

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ

For indeed he pondered and decided.

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Therefore, woe to him for his decision.

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Then again, woe to him for his decision.

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ

He then looked.

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ

Then he frowned and he scowled.

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ

Then he turned his back and became arrogant.

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ

He then said; this is nothing but clever magic.

إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ

This is no more than the word of a human.

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ

I will soon throw him in Hell.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ

And do you realize what Hell is?

لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ

It will neither finish one off nor will it leave one alone.

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ

It incinerates the human being.

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ

Over it is Nineteen.

وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ

And We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell and We have assigned their number only as a test for the unfaithful, and for the people of the scripture to attain certainty, and for the faithful to increase their faith, and that no doubts may remain for the people of the scripture and the faithful, and as for those who have a disease in their hearts and the unfaithful say, what did God mean by this example? God thus sends astray whomever He wills and guides whomever He wills. And no one knows the armies of your Lord except He and this is only a reminder for all the people.

كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ

Absolutely, by the Moon.

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ

And by the night as it covers.

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ

And by the morning as it shines.

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ

This is indeed a great one.
