وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
-on that day, Gehenna will be brought forth. On that day the human will be reminded, and what a reminder.
يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
He will say, O I wish I had prepared for my life.
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
Then on that day, his suffering will be like none other.
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
And His confinement will be like none other.
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
As for you, O contented soul,-
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
-return to your Lord, pleased, and pleasing.
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى
Enter along with My servants,-
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى
-and enter My Paradise.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
I swear by this town-
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
-and you, a resident of this town,-
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
and the parent and the child.
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
We have certainly created the human being to go through hardship.
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
Does he think that no one has any power over him?
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
He boasts; “I have spent so much money”.
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
Does he think that no one can see him?
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
Did We not create for him two eyes-
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
-and a tongue, and two lips-
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
-and showed him the two paths?
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
He should therefore choose the difficult one.
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
And do you know what the difficult one is?
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
Freeing the slaves.
أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ
Or feeding someone during hard times,-
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
-a fatherless who is close by,-
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
-or a needy who is homeless,-
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
-then if he is one of those who had attained faith, and enjoins others to patience, and enjoins others to kindness,-
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
-these will be the dwellers of the bliss.
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
As for those who reject Our signs, they will be the dwellers of misery.
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
They will be surrounded by Fire.
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا
By the Sun and the forenoon.
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا
By the Moon as he follows her.
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا
By the daylight as it brightens.
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا
By the night as it covers.
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا
By the vacuum and its structure.
وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا
By the matter and its expanse.
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا
By the soul and her balance.
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا
And He then inspired in her the understanding of the wrong and the right.
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا
Indeed, successful is the one who purified her.
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا
And indeed failed the one who betrayed her.
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ
Thamoud rejected it rebelliously.
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا
It only brought out the worst in them.
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا
However, God’s messenger had told them; this is God’s camel and you shall water her.
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا
But, they rejected him, and they maimed her, therefore their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and He then established the balance.
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا
And none fears its consequence.
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ
By the day as it brightens.
وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
By what created the male and the female.
إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ
Your works are of various kinds.
