أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ

Does he not know that what is in the graves will be resurrected,-

وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ

-and all the secrets will be exposed?

إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ

Indeed, their Lord is All Cognizant of them on that day.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

The Calamity.

مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

What is the Calamity?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

And do you know what the Calamity is?

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ

That is the day when people will be like scattered moths.

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ

And the mountains will be like fluffy wool.

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

Then as for the one whose weights are heavy,-

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

-he will then have a pleasing life.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

As for the one whose weights are light,-

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ

then his abode shall be Hell.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ

And do you know what it is?

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ

An intolerable Fire.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ

You keep on hoarding-

حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ

-until you are put in the graves.

كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

Absolutely, you will soon find out.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

Then again, you will soon find out.

كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ

Absolutely, if you only knew with a knowledge of certainty.

لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ

You will surely see the Inferno.

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ

You will then see it with an eye of certainty.

ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

You will then on that day be questioned about the blessings you had.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

وَٱلْعَصْرِ

By the era.

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ

Indeed the human being is a total loss.

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ

Exempted are those who attain faith and lead a righteous life and advocate the truth and advocate perseverance.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ

Woe to every slanderer, backbiter.

ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ

The one who piles up money and counts it.

يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ

He thinks his money makes him immortal.

كَلَّا لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ

Absolutely not, he will be thrown into the devastator.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ

And do you know what the devastator is?

نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ

God’s self-igniting fire.

ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ

That which burns from the inside.

إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ

It will indeed completely surround them.

فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ

In extended columns.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ

Did you see what your Lord did to the proprietors of the elephant?

أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍ

Did He not put their plan to waste?

وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ

And He sent upon them swarms of birds.

تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ

Showering them with devastating rocks.

فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍۭ

He then made them like chewed up hay.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

لِإِيلَـٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ

It is to be cherished by Quraish.

إِۦلَـٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ

Their cherishing of the winter and summer caravans.

فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ

They shall therefore worship the Lord of this House.

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ

The One who feeds them when hungry and provides security for them when in fear.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.
