Quran

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَ

And we had no power over you. No, it was you who were transgressing people.

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ

Now, our Lord’s promise has been fulfilled for us, we indeed have to taste it.

فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ

We misled you, because we were indeed misled ourselves.

فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

Therefore, surely on that day they all share in the suffering.

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

We thus deal with the guilty.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

This is indeed because when they were told; “There is no god except God”, they turned arrogant.

وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭ

And they say; should we abandon our gods for the sake of a crazy poet?

بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

On the contrary, he has brought the truth and he has confirmed the messengers.

إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ

You will surely endure the painful suffering.

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

And you will be repaid exactly for what you did.

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Exempted are God’s servants who are devoted purely to Him.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

For them, there is a specific provision.

فَوَٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ

There will be fruits and they will be honored-

فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

-in blissful paradises.

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

On luxurious furnishings, they will be neighbors.

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ

They will be readily served with a cup filled from a pure spring.

بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ

Clear drinks with delicious taste for the drinkers.

لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ

Never polluted, and never runs out.

وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌ

And beside them will be beautiful companions.

كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ

They are like a protected egg.

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

As they turn to one another wondering, –

قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ

-one of them says, indeed I used to have a friend.

يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ

He used to say; are you really telling the truth-

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ

-that when we die and become dust and bones, we will be held accountable?

قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ

He said; do you wish to take a look?

فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Once he looks, he sees him in the midst of the Inferno.

قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ

He said; by God, you almost diverted me.

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ

If it were not for the blessing of my Lord, I would have been definitely there.

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ

Do you still maintain that we never die,-

إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

-that we only die once, and we will never suffer?

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

This is truly the greatest triumph.

لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ

For the likes of this, every worker shall work.

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ

Is this better or the tree of bitterness?

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

We indeed created it as a torment for the unjust.

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Indeed it is a tree that grows in the midst of the Inferno.

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ

Its blossoms are like heads of demons.

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ

Then they will eat from it and they fill their bellies.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

Then they top it off with a hellish drink.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Afterwards, they continue to suffer the Inferno.

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ

They indeed found their fathers astray.

فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ

Therefore, they followed their footsteps.

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

And indeed before them, many of the previous generations had gone astray.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

In spite of the fact that We indeed sent to them warners.

فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

Therefore, observe the consequences for those who were warned.

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Exempted are God’s servants who are purely devoted to Him.

وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ

And surely Noah called upon Us and We are the best responder.

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

And We saved him and his family from the great disaster.

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ

And made his progeny lasting.

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

And We preserved their history for the subsequent generations.

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Peace upon Noah amongst all the people.
