الواقعة

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God; The All-Gracious, The All-Merciful.

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ

When the event transpires-

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

-no one can deny its occurrence.

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ

Humiliating and exulting.

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا

When the ground trembled from its foundation-

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا

and the mountains were like fluffy wool.

فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا

Then they were scattered like dust.

وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً

And you were stratified into three groups.

فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ

Then there are the dwellers of the bliss, oh what dwellers of the bliss!

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ

And the dwellers of misery, woe to the dwellers of misery!

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ

And the front-runners, far ahead of all.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

These shall be the closest.

فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

In blissful paradises.

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

A group from the early generations.

وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

And a few from the later generations.

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ

On furnishings adorned with precious stones.

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

Relaxing on them; they will be neighbors.

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ

Mingling with them will be immortal children.

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ

With goblets, pitchers, and cups filled with pure drinks.

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ

They never run out of it and they never get tired.

وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

And there will be fruits of their choice.

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

And the meat of birds that they desire.

وَحُورٌ عِينٌ

And beautiful companions-

كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ

-like protected pearls.

جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

A just reward for their deeds.

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا

They will never hear any nonsense therein nor a sinful utterance.

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا

Only the utterance of peace, peace.

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Then there are the dwellers of the bliss, oh what dwellers of the bliss!

فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ

In lush orchards-

وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ

-decorated trees with fruits.

وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ

And extended shade.

وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ

And ever-flowing water.

وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ

And abundant fruit.

لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ

Never running out, never forbidden.

وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ

And exalted furnishings.

إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً

We will initiate them, a special initiation.

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا

And We will make them virtuous.

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا

Perfectly matched,-

لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

-for the dwellers of the bliss.

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

A group from the early generations-

وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

And a group from the later generations.

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ

As for the dwellers of misery, woe to the dwellers of misery!

فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ

They will be in simoom and scalding water.

وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ

And burning shade.

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ

Never cooling, never pleasing.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ

Indeed, they used to be opulent before this.

وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

And they insisted on the great perjury.

وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

And they used to say, when we die and become dust and bones, will we then indeed be resurrected?

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

And our ancestors?

قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Say; indeed the early generations as well as the later ones,-

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

-all will indeed be summoned for the meeting on an appointed day.

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ

Now here you are O you deviators, liars.

لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ

You will surely eat from the tree of bitterness.

فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ

Then you will fill your stomachs therewith.

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

Then you drink scalding water on top of it.

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ

Indeed, you will drink with an un-quenching thirst.

هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ

This will be their share on the Day of Faith.

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ

We have created you, do you not agree?

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ

Do you see the semen that you produce?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ

Did you create it, or are We the Creator?

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

We have decreed death for you, and We never fail-

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

-to replace you and to initiate you as something you cannot comprehend.

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

And you certainly know about the first creation; why then do you not take heed?

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ

Do you see what you harvest?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ

Did you farm it or are We the farmer?

لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ

Had We willed, We could have turned it into hay, then you would have ended up astonished.

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ

We have indeed suffered a real loss,-

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

-indeed we have been deprived.

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ

Do you see the water that you drink?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ

Do you cause it to come down from the cloud or do We?

لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Had We willed, We could have made it salty, therefore, why are you not appreciative?

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ

Do you see the fire that you ignite?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ

Did you initiate its tree or are We the initiator?

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ

We have made it a reminder and a provision to strengthen you.

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Therefore, glorify the name of your Lord, The Great.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ

I therefore swear by the positions of the stars.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ

And this is certainly a mighty oath if you only knew.

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ

This is indeed an honorable Quran.

فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ

In a protected book.

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ

No one can understand it except for the pure at heart.

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

A revelation from the Lord of the Multiverse.

أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ

Are you taking this narration lightly?

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ

And are you making it your business to stubbornly reject it?

فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ

Then when she reaches the throat,-

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ

-and you all look around wandering.

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ

However, We are closer to him than all of you, but you cannot see.

فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ

Therefore, if you do not owe anything,-

تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

-bring her back, if you are truthful.

فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

Then, if he is one of the close ones,-

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ

-he will have enjoyment, and a Paradise full of bliss.

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

And if he is of the dwellers of the bliss,-

فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

-then, peace upon you from the dwellers of the bliss.

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

And if he is one of the liars, deviators,-

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

he will then descend into an intolerable Hell.

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ

And the abode of the Inferno.

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ

Indeed, this is the absolute truth.

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Therefore, glorify the name of your Lord, The Great.
